How to Practice English Speaking with Carna?

Starting a Practice Session

Click Practice in the top menu.
- On the Carna Practice Sessions page, you will see:
  - Continue Learning – your current active session (with a Continue Practice button).
  - Previous Sessions – older practice sessions that you can choose to continue.
To continue an open session, click Continue Practice on the active card or click on any Previous Sessions you wish to continue.
To start a new practice, click the + New Practice button in the top-right corner.
A new practice page opens, and Carna greets you with a message (for example: “Hello! I’m Carna, your English tutor…”).

Now you are ready to change your settings and start practicing.

At the top-right of the practice page, you’ll see a Practice Settings button.

Click Practice Settings.
In the Practice Mode section, choose:
- Carna Chat – you can type or speak, and Carna replies with full sentences (good for writing + reading).
- Carna Speaking – more focused on speaking and listening.
In the Difficulty section, choose your level:
- Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced.
- Choose the one that feels right for your English level.
In the same Practice Settings window, you will also see Translation Language.
- Scroll to Translation Language.
- Choose the language you want Carna to use for explanations or translations (for example, Turkish, English, Spanish, etc.).
- The selected language will be used when Carna explains a word or sentence for you.
Click on the 'x' button in the corner of Settings window. They will be saved. Or you can scroll down and click on New Session to create a new session with your new adjustments.

You can change these settings any time during your practice.

At the bottom of the practice screen, you see the message box.

To type:

Click in the text box that says something like “Type your message or click the microphone to record…”.
Write your message.
Click the send icon (paper plane) to send it.

To record your voice:

Click the Record button (microphone icon) on the left side of the text box.
If your browser asks for microphone permission, click Allow.
A red banner appears at the top saying “Recording in progress…” and the Record button changes to Stop.
Speak clearly into your microphone.
When you finish, click Stop.
You will see a Recording ready message and a small audio bar with:
- A Play button to listen to your recording.
- A Delete (trash) icon if you want to remove it and record again.
If you are happy with your recording, click the Send button (paper plane icon) to send your voice message to Carna.

You can mix both typing and speaking in the same session.

Next to the Record button, you will see the current voice name (for example, Olivia).

Click the voice name (Olivia, Archie, Lucy, etc.).
A list of voices opens, with different names and accents (British, American, male, female, etc.).
Click a voice to select it.
Carna’s future replies will use this new voice.

You can change the voice anytime during your practice session.

At the bottom of the Practice Settings window, you will see Session controls:

+ New Session – starts a fresh conversation with Carna (good if you want to change topic completely).
End Session – closes the current session.

Use End Session when you have finished practicing and want to close that conversation.
